Church Planter’s Perspective--Alan Rathbun
Motivation for Church Planting
Are you thankful for your church? Then let that give you all the motivation you need to be part of more and more churches being planted in Eastern PA. Why? Because the church that you attend today would not exist had there not been some people who followed God's leading to plant a church in your community. In fact, it's accurate to say that there are thousands of people all over Eastern PA who would not have received Christ unless someone had planted a church near them.
Every time we plant a church we give more people the opportunity to hear the gospel and see God's kingdom expressed by His people in their own community. For an unbeliever starting their journey toward faith, seeing the Kingdom of God expressed by a local church in its community may bemore valuable than hearing the message. In fact, they may not be willing to HEAR the message of Christ unless they SEE it through His people first. This reality must grab our hearts and motivate us to plant churches!
I can hear some people saying, "Alan, don't you know that some Christians travel many miles to attend a church they like." Of course, I know this. That was the case in the church I pastored and still attend. But please get this: While this may be true for a Christian, an unbeliever is not likely to travel more than a few minutes to visit a church for the first time.
By God's grace and the power of the Holy Spirit in the past 8 years, we have planted 7 churches that are committed to keep on planting more churches. More multiplying churches are on the way. Will you and your church join them through prayer, through generous giving, and through planting a church near you?
